Website Accessibility

The Exchange’s goal is to make Washington Healthplanfinder and our corporate website easy for everyone to use, regardless of ability.

To ensure we meet accessibility standards, we rely on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA standards for all content, design and development on the websites, the WAPlanfinder app and in other digital communications. When we are able, we strive to meet WCAG’s level AAA standards.

We recognize WCAG is constantly evolving, and so must we. This is why we continually work to improve our digital content.

Key areas of focus

Quality assurance

Accessibility requires ongoing effort. We use common industry practices for testing website accessibility, including both automated and human evaluation of each page.

Requirements documentation

We have an extensive library of information available to our product teams, including best practices, discipline-based support guidelines and FAQs. We continually update this library as WCAG standards evolve.

User Experience

Inclusive design and usability testing is built into our design process. We provide our product teams with online and in-person training, periodic refreshers and informational sessions so we stay sharp. In addition, our team of accessibility experts is always available for support and guidance.

Language accessibility

Plain Talk and Inclusive Language

It is paramount the language we use on both the corporate website and Washington Healthplanfinder is clear, concise and easy to understand. We use plain talk in all our digital content, tools and communications to achieve this. Plain talk avoids jargon and keeps messages shorter and easier to read.

To the best of our ability, we consider everyone's experience when choosing words.

Language Support

Everyone has a right to receive information in their own language. This is why we provide support in more than 200 languages. Customers can ask for an interpreter by phone, find support in their community by language or request translated materials. These services are free for the customer.

The Exchange strives to maintain an inclusive, accessible and welcoming environment for all users. Feedback is important to helping us achieve this goal.
