Become a Sponsor

You can help make health coverage accessible to members of your community. Under federal and state law, the Exchange is authorized to work with interested entities to help cover health care costs on behalf of customers enrolled through Washington Healthplanfinder. These entities are known as “sponsors.”

Sponsorship Program Information

Washington Health Benefit Exchange runs Washington Healthplanfinder, the online marketplace that 1 in 4 Washington residents use to get Medicaid and commercial individual market coverage.

Washington Healthplanfinder is a resource for residents who are unable to get health coverage through their job or another source. This includes individuals who have recently become unemployed, individuals who are self-employed or in the gig economy, and individuals who do not yet qualify for Medicare coverage.

Washington Healthplanfinder provides affordable options for many individuals, but there are gaps in the federal subsidies that leave some consumers with no affordable options to pay monthly health insurance premiums or afford out-of-pocket costs. Sponsorship entities can help fill this gap.

The Exchange’s sponsorship program enables entities like nonprofits, American Indian Tribes, private foundations, and others to provide financial support. This generous support helps pay the cost of premiums and/or out-of-pocket expenses for individuals enrolled in qualified health plans through Washington Healthplanfinder.

How Does It Work?

Sponsorship entities choose who to cover, what plans to include, and what level of coverage to provide. A sponsor could, for example, choose to help cover premium costs for enrollees up to a certain income level or limit assistance to a specific population, county and/or zip code.

The Exchange facilitates communication and payment between the sponsorship entity and health insurance carriers.
