David Sorrell

David Sorrell (he/him) is the Chief Information Officer for Washington Health Benefit Exchange.

David is a highly collaborative leader with over 30 years of experience in information technology and has worked in both the public and private sectors.

Prior to joining the Exchange, David served as the Assistant Director for Strategy and Management at Washington Technology Solutions (WaTech). In this role, he led a team of senior consultants and project management partners responsible for providing oversight to the state’s largest, most complex, highest risk and greatest impact information technology projects.

Prior to WaTech, David served as the Chief Information Officer for the Washington Department of Revenue. He served in that role for nearly 10 years and was responsible for setting strategic direction and overseeing the operations of the department’s information technology capabilities including business systems, security, network, compute and storage, telecommunications, and support services.

David has also worked as a private sector consultant serving a variety of corporate clients. As a consultant for Fujitsu, David led and worked on large-scale technology initiatives for multiple clients including Boeing, Microsoft, Energy Northwest, Peugeot, and others.

David is a graduate of the Evergreen State College and holds professional certifications in Project Management and E-Commerce from the University of Washington. He is a PMI certified Project Management Professional and a recipient of the Governor’s Leadership in Management Award.
