Supporting Innovative Enrollment Options Across Washington

We’re adapting to find more ways to reach our communities this open enrollment period. Our state’s Navigators have responded to the constraints of COVID-19 with optimism and innovation. Throughout November and December, Washingtonians can meet with Navigators to get enrollment support at a range of socially distant in-person and virtual events.

With a shift to more virtual events, technology plays a significant role. The Washington Health Benefit Exchange (Exchange) wanted to support Navigators with the tools and resources needed to help their clients. This month, the Exchange is contributing funds to the state’s nine Navigator Organizations to purchase laptops, tablets, headsets, and other equipment.

Establishing a range of enrollment center locations that allow individuals to review plans in a safe environment in their community isn’t a new approach for Navigator Organizations. To keep the public safe, it was particularly important this year to design creative, socially distant, in-person options.

“This year, we had to be particularly innovative,” said Leslie Martinez, Navigator at Tri-Cities Community Health. “These funds will help us continue supporting health plan customers through events like virtual one-on-one appointments, virtual group educational sessions and even drive by open enrollment events.”

If you or someone you know is shopping for a 2021 plan, you can find a navigator in your community by using the WAPlanfinder Mobile App or by visiting WAHealthplanfinder.org. You can also contact Washington Healthplanfinder’s Customer Support Center for assistance at 1-855-923-4633; TTY: 855-627-9604. To schedule an appointment online with an Enrollment Center, visit WAHealthplanfinder.org and select ‘Get Virtual Help’.

LifeWise Health Plan of Washington contributed funds to the Exchange to help in this effort.

“We’re thrilled to know Washingtonians shopping for 2021 health insurance have more choice than ever before—and that our communities are so well supported by Navigators as they make this important health decision for themselves and their families,” said Kristin Meadows, LifeWise Individual Market Director. “The Exchange’s effort to bring more technology access to these important conversations is an effort we’re happy to support.”

Open Enrollment runs November 1 through December 15 for health plan coverage that starts January 1, 2021. Those who enroll after December and before January 15 will have a coverage start date of February 1. For more information, please visit WAHealthplanfinder.org.
