Washington Healthplanfinder Reminds Residents about Special Enrollment Opportunities

Summer Collaboration with Live Nation aimed at Reaching New Grads and others with Qualifying Life Events OLYMPIA, Wash.

Washington Healthplanfinder today announced a new outreach effort with Live Nation, producer of the Sasquatch! Music Festival, to educate music fans about ongoing opportunities to enroll in health coverage through the online health insurance marketplace. Washington residents may be eligible to enroll before the next open enrollment period if they have a qualifying life event such as getting married, having or adopting a baby or involuntarily losing health coverage.

Those who qualify for Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) may enroll at any point during the year, as well as American Indians/Alaskan Natives who are enrolled members of a federally recognized Tribe or an Alaska Native Corporation.

“Residents statewide should be aware that they may be eligible to enroll before the start of open enrollment on Nov. 15, 2014 if they have a qualifying life event,” said Richard Onizuka, Chief Executive Officer for the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. “Customers have 60 days from the date of their life event to visit to see if they qualify.”

The new collaboration with Live Nation kicked off over Memorial Day weekend at the Sasquatch! Music Festival with signage, educational materials, free cell phone charging stations and sponsorship of the Guest Services tent. Washington Healthplanfinder stage signs and signs around the venue will remain up at Gorge Amphitheatre concerts throughout the summer. Additional outreach will take place through messaging and banner ads through Live Nation’s website, printable tickets, social media accounts and other online properties.

As part of the effort, Washington Healthplanfinder and Live Nation are also launching a sweepstakes on Facebook to win one grand prize of “Free Tickets for a Year” — a $5,000 Ticketmaster gift card that can be used toward concerts, sporting events, theater tickets and more. Washington residents ages 18 and older can participate by visiting to “Like” the organization, learn more about new health coverage options and submit a sweepstakes entry form.

“We’re excited to build upon our recent momentum with Live Nation to stay top of mind with this demographic as we approach the next open enrollment period,” said Michael Marchand, Director of Communications. “Young adults are also more likely to qualify for a special enrollment than any other age group, which further stresses the importance of reaching out to this audience throughout the entire year.”

According to a recent report from the national nonprofit Young Invincibles, young adults are more likely to trigger special enrollment periods due to a higher incidence of life events such as moving to a new coverage area, having a baby, getting married, no longer being eligible for a parent’s health plan after turning 26 years old, or no longer being eligible for a student health plan after graduation.

Residents who think they may qualify for a special enrollment period should visit to complete an application and a special enrollment questionnaire. Customers will also be asked to submit supporting documentation that shows proof of their life event. Documentation will be reviewed within two to three weeks of being received and must be submitted before a special enrollment can be finalized with the insurance company.

More than 100,000 individuals ages 18 to 34 have already signed up for new health coverage options through Live Nation is the largest producer of music events in the world, producing more than 150 events in Washington state each year, reaching hundreds of thousands onsite and millions through media.
