How Healthplanfinder Navigators are Making a Difference in the Lives of Washingtonians

Open enrollment ends Dec. 15! Are you confused about how to enroll or where to go for help? Let us introduce, Susana Lopez.

“A knowledgeable and trusted resource”

Since 2013, Susana Lopez has been the go-to person at Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics for many people in and around Mason County who need help understanding and enrolling in health coverage.  Susana is a knowledgeable and trusted resource related to health insurance coverage offered through Washington Healthplanfinder – including qualified health plans and Washington Apple Health (Medicaid).

“I wanted to work as a navigator because I love helping people and making a difference in their lives. When I see patients come to the hospital that don’t know how to sign up for insurance, I feel it’s my duty to step in and walk them through the process.” Susana also notices that many of the individuals she consults don’t understand the coverage options available because of language barriers, and are unaware they can enroll in a qualified health insurance plan or Medicaid. Thankfully, Susana is bilingual – and can assist the large population of Spanish-speaking patients who visit Mason General.

Recently, Susana helped a Spanish-speaking ER patient who was told by a friend that she shouldn’t bother with enrolling in coverage because “she wasn’t qualified.” Susana helped the woman understand her expensive bill and her treatment by translating her options in Spanish – and assisted her with enrolling in the most affordable health coverage available. Without Susana’s advice and consultation, the patient would have been stuck paying a steep hospital bill out of her own pocket and left unsure about how she’d afford next month’s bills.

Susana is one of many navigators located around Washington State who help customers get signed up for healthcare. They help Washingtonians through the application and enrollment process from start to finish. Ask other navigators and brokers like Susana, and they’ll tell you they do to help individuals and their families across the state get access to the health care they need. They can even help determine if individuals qualify for financial assistance.

“Individuals can visit 10 full service enrollment centers across the state that offer one-on-one, confidential help to guide people through the process. All of this at no cost.”
